An interesting spelling error
Lot 2798
Constantine II, as Caesar, 316-337. Follis (Bronze, 21 mm, 2.98 g, 6 h), Rome, 317. CONSTANTINVS IVN NOB CAES Laureate, draped and cuirassed bust of Constantine II to right, seen from behind. Rev. CLARITA (sic!) R-EI PVBLICAE / A / R T Sol, nude but for chlamys, advancing left, raising his right hand in salute and holding whip in his left. RIC 84 var. Rare and with an interesting spelling error on the reverse. Very light deposits, otherwise, good very fine.

From the collection of Dr. L. Ramskold, formed since 1969.

The engraver working on this obverse die crafted an exceptionally skilled and lifelike portrait of Constantine II, who was only about 12 months old at the time. Additionally, there is an intriguing spelling error on the reverse, where the legend reads CLARITA instead of CLARITAS.
